Welcome to my new blog!
I am Sherilyn Siegmund-Roach, and since that name is quite a mouthful I go by "Sheri Roach" with all my friends. I am a certified clinical aromatherapist. I trained initially with Andrea Butje of Aromahead Institute, and since then have taken courses with several other schools and instructors.
I am currently conducting private client consultations as well as consulting for the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital hospice program. I am also a writer and professional editor for The Herbal Academy online.
Why essential oils? I have seen their power repeated over and over in my life, the lives of my family, and the lives of my friends. But how did it all start for me?
On the path to essential oils...
In June 2013 I had a bad horseback riding accident that resulted in a punctured, collapsed lung; three broken ribs; and a fractured collar bone. I was in the hospital for almost a week. One night I awoke around 4am and my pain was at a 10 on the pain scale. I knew I had maxed out my pain meds and would not get another dose of anything for at least another two hours. I called the nurse and asked if there was anything at all she could do for me. She left and returned a few minutes later with a dosage cup containing a cotton ball. She told me I could smell if it I wanted to. What was in the cup? Some essential oils on the cotton ball. I thought that was odd, but I was willing to try anything. The end result was that I sleep the rest of the night with that dosage cup sitting on my chest. It was amazing. When I asked the nurse whatThe next day I sent my husband to our local health food store to buy me some essential oils, and my journey has been full of wonderful essential oil experiences ever since.
My bachelors is in biology, and my masters is in science education. A science-based career such as aromatherapy is right up my alley. I retired from a 24 year career as a public school math, science, and gifted education teacher. I live in Fairbanks with my husband, two horses, one cat, and one dog. I have three grown children, two of whom are married. I also have three grandchildren. In my spare time I love to read, sew, do needlework, and ride my horses.
